ChatGPT Christmas Photo Prompts
15 copy-and-paste prompts for turning an ordinary photo into a Christmas portrait, card or snow globe with ChatGPT, plus the small changes that stop it from giving you somebody else's face.
How to use these ChatGPT Christmas photo prompts
Open ChatGPT, attach a clear photo with the + button, paste one of the prompts below and send. If the face changes, reply "Keep the face exactly as in my original photo" and it will try again. One change per message works better than rewriting the whole prompt.
Getting a ChatGPT Christmas photo that still looks like you
- Start with a good photo. ChatGPT can only keep what it can see: face to the camera, daylight, no sunglasses, and not a group shot cropped down to one person.
- Keep the line about your face. Every prompt here includes it, because without it the model "improves" faces.
- Say the shape. 4:5 for Instagram, 5:7 or 2:3 for cards, 3:2 for a desktop background.
- Change one thing at a time. "Make the sweater green" keeps everything else; pasting a new prompt starts over.
Classic portraits
By the fireplace
Turn this photo into a cozy Christmas portrait: me sitting in a knit sweater by a stone fireplace with stockings hung above it, warm orange firelight, a decorated tree out of focus behind me, soft film grain. Keep my face, hairstyle and skin tone exactly as in the photo. Portrait, 4:5.
Snowy street at night
Place me on a snowy small-town street at night, wearing a wool coat and scarf, with string lights across the street and gently falling snow lit from behind. Shallow depth of field, like a 50mm photo. Keep my face, hairstyle and skin tone exactly as in the photo.
Studio red backdrop
Make a studio Christmas portrait of me against a deep red backdrop with a few gold ornaments hanging out of focus. Soft key light from the left, holiday card quality. Keep my face, hairstyle and skin tone exactly as in the photo. 2:3 vertical.
Vintage 1950s Christmas
Restyle this photo as a 1950s Christmas photograph: Kodachrome colors, a tinsel tree with big bulb lights, period clothing and a little film fade at the edges. Keep my face, hairstyle and skin tone exactly as in the photo.
Families and couples
Matching pajamas
Using everyone in this photo, create a family Christmas picture of us in matching red plaid pajamas on a couch in front of a lit tree, laughing and holding mugs of cocoa. Keep every person's face and build exactly as they are. Landscape, 3:2.
Christmas card layout
Make a Christmas card from this photo: the people placed in a snowy pine forest at golden hour, with space at the bottom for the words "Merry Christmas" in an elegant serif. Keep each face exactly the same. 5:7 vertical.
Couple under mistletoe
Turn this photo of the two of us into a romantic Christmas scene: standing under mistletoe in a doorway decorated with garland and warm white lights, snow visible through the window. Keep both faces exactly as they are.
Kids
Meeting Santa
Create a photo of this child meeting Santa in a cozy workshop with shelves of wooden toys, Santa kneeling to their height, both smiling. Keep the child's face exactly as in the photo, natural and age-appropriate.
Elf at the North Pole
Turn this child into a North Pole elf: green and red elf outfit with a pointed hat, wrapping presents at a workbench, candy canes and snow outside the window. Keep the child's face exactly the same, storybook warmth.
Asleep before Christmas
Show this child asleep on the couch on Christmas Eve, a blanket over them, cookies and milk on the table, the tree glowing and a sleigh visible in the night sky through the window. Keep their face exactly as in the photo.
Pets
Dog in a Santa hat
Put my dog in a Santa hat and a small red scarf, sitting beside a pile of wrapped presents under the tree. Keep the dog's breed, markings and face exactly as in the photo. Bright, sharp, 4:5.
Cat in the tree
Show my cat peeking out from between the branches of a decorated Christmas tree, one paw on a glass ornament, lights reflecting in its eyes. Keep the cat's color and markings exactly the same.
Fun and trending styles
Snow globe
Put me inside a glass snow globe on a wooden shelf, standing in a tiny snowy village with falling snow. Photorealistic glass reflections. Keep my face, hairstyle and skin tone exactly as in the photo.
Claymation
Recreate this photo as a claymation Christmas scene, like a stop-motion holiday special: clay figures of us with fingerprint texture, a felt-and-clay living room with a small tree. Keep our features recognisable.
Magazine cover
Make a Christmas magazine cover with me as the cover star in a festive outfit, bold title "HOLIDAY" at the top and two short cover lines about gifts and recipes. Keep my face, hairstyle and skin tone exactly as in the photo.
Questions
Does this work with the free version of ChatGPT?
Image generation is part of ChatGPT on free and paid plans, but free accounts get a small number of images a day and limits change often. If you hit the limit, the same prompts work in Google Gemini and most other image tools that accept an uploaded photo.
Why doesn't the result look like me?
Image models redraw the whole picture, so faces drift. Use a sharp, front-facing photo in daylight, keep the line about keeping your face in the prompt, and ask for one change at a time. Saying "this looks like a different person; keep the face from the original photo" often fixes it on the next try.
Can I use the pictures on Christmas cards?
For personal cards, yes. Ask for the card shape you need (5:7 for most photo cards, 4:5 for Instagram) and leave space for text, then add the text yourself in a card app: AI-written lettering often has spelling mistakes.
Is it safe to upload photos of my kids?
Read the privacy settings of the tool you use first. In ChatGPT you can turn off model training under Settings › Data controls. If you're not comfortable, use the prompts with a photo of yourself or the family pet instead.
